Mock High School Parliament

Objective Faculty of Law and Political Sciences.

The objectives of this competition category are:

  • Registered candidates to acquire practical knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of political sciences;
  • The registered candidates should familiarize themselves with the conditions for study and the possibilities of the faculties that are involved in the implementation of the campaign;
  • Opportunity for teamwork, developing political argumentation skills, oratorical skills as well as stimulating research curiosity.
Description
  1. First phase: organizing training in which students will get to know activism as an important skill for improving social areas. Participants will be encouraged to be proactive in solving specific social issues that affect a wider interest group.
  2. Second phase: processing a concrete question/problem and conducting research with proposed measures for solutions under the mentorship of university professors and practitioners. Meeting with MPs from different political parties and meeting with activists in the specific areas.
  3. Third phase: simulation of representing the solutions in a simulated Parliament in which high school students will be divided according to different ideologies that they will represent.

The selection of registered candidates is carried out in two stages:

1. Phase Analysis – Research of a certain social issue (on topics: economic-social stratification, polluted air, the role of high school students in creating youth policies)

  • study and analysis of the issue.
  • analysis of the situation in the Republic of North Macedonia.
  • analysis of the situation in a developed European country on the same issue.

2. Public presentation phase 50% (simulation of solution representation).

Why apply to this category?

The concept of parliament simulation aims to encourage high school students through the practical acquisition of knowledge and skills to understand activism and its power to encourage and solve social issues that are significant for the general public. Within this category, high school students who have leadership characteristics will supplement them with practical knowledge and skills and will be able to work directly on specific social areas through analysis and finding solutions. In addition, they will acquire the skill of argumentative representation of a solution and debate about which arguments will be best presented and argued. Through the meeting with the MPs and activists, they will get to know the ways in which they manage to achieve social changes. This category refers to high school students who see themselves as future leaders within the global political system, not only in the Republic of North Macedonia.

What will you get?

By signing up for this application, high school students will have the opportunity to work with university professors in the field of political science, activists and parliamentarians. Through this opportunity, they will acquire practical knowledge and skills that will enable them to see how a certain issue can be solved and how to represent those ideas that will emerge as a solution after appropriate research. They will gain knowledge that decisions must be based on research and evidence.

How will it be realized?

By clicking on the application for this category, high school students decide to be part of a case study through its theoretical study and video documentation. After the specific case has been presented, the registered high school students will receive guidance on the further course of activities through daily communication with the mentors of the specific category. These activities include workshops, meetings and trainings with university professors of political science, activists and MPs.

What are the evaluation criteria?

Research on one of the listed topics: economic-social stratification, polluted air or the role of high school students in creating youth policies. The research is conceived as an analysis of research on the respective topics. Understanding the situation and finding appropriate solutions through the analysis of similar situations in a more developed country. For example: Slovenia. In this phase, analytical skills will be evaluated.

The second stage is meeting with activists and MPs, discussing the results of the research and sharing experiences with practitioners who are engaged in advocacy on these topics. In this phase, the skills for dialogue and exchange of experiences will be evaluated.

The third stage is a simulation of Parliament through which the skills of advocacy, debating and argumentation will be demonstrated. High school students will be divided by ideological context following the example of the European Parliament.

Who should apply to this category?

Every high school student who has a talent for public speaking, who is studying political science, every student who is interested in how to improve the society in which it exists, but also how to encourage and solve global issues and problems that do not only concern on our territory. High school students who want to be future leaders, part of the civil sector or part of public institutions.

Where will the preparation for this category and the courtroom take place?

The preparation process will be carried out in two ways in the premises of AUE FON Skopje and a visit to the competent institutions. Daily communication with the mentors of the category (university professors) will be realized through a virtual platform (Teams on Office365).
