Why apply to this category?
The Mock Trial concept aims to encourage high school students to get closer to their desired profession through practical acquisition of knowledge and skills. Within this category, high school students who possess a talent for discovery, recognition, public speaking and proof will have the opportunity to meet students of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences and the Faculty of Detectives and Security who will direct them to the study of criminal law through a specifically punishable legal event whose discovery, clarification and proof will go through all stages of the criminal procedure. With the proven cooperation with the competent institutions Ministry of Internal Affairs, Primary Public Prosecutor’s Office, Criminal Court Skopje, Bar Association and Ministry of Justice, Administration for the Execution of Sanctions, the American University of Fon will select future best lawyers and members of the security services through this category.
What will you get?
By signing up for this application, high school students will have the opportunity to work with university professors from the field of criminal law, follow practical workshops and trainings from experts and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, Criminal Court Skopje, Bar Association and Ministry of Justice. Administration for the execution of sanctions as well as to network with the students of AUE FON in order to acquire new knowledge, skills and experiences.
How will it be realized?
By clicking on the application for this category, high school students decide to be part of a case study through its theoretical study and video documentation. After the specific case has been presented, the registered high school students will receive guidance on the further course of activities through daily communication with the mentors of the specific category. These activities include workshops and trainings with university professors in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedural Law, Penology, Organized Crime and Forensics, case-specific training by experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, Criminal Court Skopje, Bar Association and Ministry of justice, Sanctions Enforcement Administration as competent institutions for conducting criminal proceedings.
What are the evaluation criteria?
The study of a criminal legal event leads to the determination of the type and severity of the crime that is the subject of clarification. From the moment of committing the crime to the moment of deciding on an appropriate criminal sanction (judgment), the following tasks will be given: qualification of a crime, preparation of appropriate acts of pre-criminal procedure, criminal report, indictment, introductory speeches, evidentiary procedure, final words and judgment (measuring punishment) which tasks will be evaluated from two aspects: written part (formal) and oral presentation (oratory skills). The commitment, ambition and responsibility of each high school student will be assessed individually, and the solving of the tasks and the decision-making process through the presentation of the completed part of the criminal procedure (courtroom) will be assessed as a team.
Who should apply to this category?
Every high school student who has a talent for public speaking, who is majoring in the study of criminology, every student who is interested in how crimes are detected in our country, who finds the perpetrators, who prosecutes and who punishes them, every high school student who wishes to get to know the justice system from a different distance and high school students who want to be future lawyers, public prosecutors, judges, members of the security services.
Where will the preparation for this category and the courtroom take place?
The preparation process will be carried out in two ways in the premises of AUE FON Skopje and a visit to the competent institutions. Daily communication with the mentors of the category (university professors) will be realized through a virtual platform (Teams on Office365).
